Chiropractic Care for Workplace Injuries in Penticton
A workplace injury can disrupt every part of your life — from your ability to do your job to simple daily tasks at home. Whether it's a sudden injury like a lifting strain, slip-and-fall, or impact event, or a cumulative injury that built up over months of repetitive work, getting the right treatment quickly is the best way to recover fully and return to work safely.
At Okanagan Chiropractic Center, we have been treating work injuries in Penticton for over 35 years. Our three chiropractors — Dr. Condren Berry, Dr. Tamara Kornelsen, and Dr. Maia Pidperyhora — each bring specialized experience treating the back, neck, shoulder, and joint injuries most common in the trades, healthcare, hospitality, agriculture, forestry, and warehouse industries of the South Okanagan and Boundary regions.
What WorkSafeBC Covers for Chiropractic Care
For an accepted musculoskeletal injury claim, WorkSafeBC covers up to 11 chiropractic sessions within 8 weeks, provided your initial chiropractic visit occurs within 60 days of the date of injury. If your first visit is more than 60 days after the injury, WorkSafeBC approval is required before treatment begins.
Your chiropractic care is billed directly to WorkSafeBC under the Chiropractic Services Agreement — there is no out-of-pocket cost to you for treatment within your covered period. Chiropractors in British Columbia are recognized as primary healthcare providers, which means you do not need a referral from your family doctor to start care.
Why Early Treatment Matters
Research consistently shows that workers who begin treatment soon after a workplace injury recover faster and return to work sooner than those who delay care. Inflammation, scar tissue, and compensatory movement patterns all worsen when injuries go untreated. The earlier we can assess your injury and begin a structured treatment plan, the better your prognosis — and the more likely WorkSafeBC will accept extension requests if needed beyond the initial 8 weeks.
When you visit our clinic, your initial assessment includes a thorough history of the injury, a comprehensive physical examination, orthopedic and neurological testing, and — where indicated — diagnostic imaging. Your chiropractor develops a personalized treatment plan targeting your specific injury and recovery goals, with an eye toward your return-to-work timeline.
The Reports We File on Your Behalf
WorkSafeBC requires specific reporting from chiropractors so your claim is documented and your treatment is covered. We handle all of this for you:
Chiropractor's First Report (Form 8C): Filed within three days of your initial visit. This documents your injury, our examination findings, and the treatment plan, and initiates the chiropractic portion of your claim.
Chiropractic Treatment Report (Form 83D667): Filed at the sixth week of treatment or after the eighth session, whichever comes first, if we are requesting an extension. This shows your progress and clinical justification for continued care.
Chiropractor's Discharge Report (Form 11C): Filed within seven days of your last visit. This formally closes the chiropractic episode of care and documents your recovery outcome.
What We Treat for Work Injuries
The work injuries we most commonly treat include lower and mid-back strain from lifting and overexertion, neck and shoulder injuries from awkward postures and overhead work, repetitive strain injuries of the wrist, elbow, and shoulder, impact injuries from slips, trips, and falls, sciatic-type pain from heavy or prolonged sitting, and headaches related to neck strain or concussion-adjacent mechanisms. Our approach combines hands-on spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, active release techniques, and guided rehabilitation exercises to restore function progressively over your treatment plan.
If Your Claim Isn't Accepted Yet
Your chiropractor can begin treatment while your WorkSafeBC claim is still under review. We'll submit the Chiropractor's First Report and treat your injury based on clinical need. If your claim is later accepted, we bill WorkSafeBC for the care provided. If the claim is denied, you may be responsible for the cost of the visits — we'll discuss this clearly with you before starting.
