Chiropractic Care for Workplace Injuries in Penticton

A workplace injury can disrupt every part of your life — from your ability to do your job to simple daily tasks at home. Whether it's a sudden injury like a lifting strain, slip-and-fall, or impact event, or a cumulative injury that built up over months of repetitive work, getting the right treatment quickly is the best way to recover fully and return to work safely.

At Okanagan Chiropractic Center, we have been treating work injuries in Penticton for over 35 years. Our three chiropractors — Dr. Condren Berry, Dr. Tamara Kornelsen, and Dr. Maia Pidperyhora — each bring specialized experience treating the back, neck, shoulder, and joint injuries most common in the trades, healthcare, hospitality, agriculture, forestry, and warehouse industries of the South Okanagan and Boundary regions.

What WorkSafeBC Covers for Chiropractic Care

For an accepted musculoskeletal injury claim, WorkSafeBC covers up to 11 chiropractic sessions within 8 weeks, provided your initial chiropractic visit occurs within 60 days of the date of injury. If your first visit is more than 60 days after the injury, WorkSafeBC approval is required before treatment begins.

Your chiropractic care is billed directly to WorkSafeBC under the Chiropractic Services Agreement — there is no out-of-pocket cost to you for treatment within your covered period. Chiropractors in British Columbia are recognized as primary healthcare providers, which means you do not need a referral from your family doctor to start care.

Why Early Treatment Matters

Research consistently shows that workers who begin treatment soon after a workplace injury recover faster and return to work sooner than those who delay care. Inflammation, scar tissue, and compensatory movement patterns all worsen when injuries go untreated. The earlier we can assess your injury and begin a structured treatment plan, the better your prognosis — and the more likely WorkSafeBC will accept extension requests if needed beyond the initial 8 weeks.

When you visit our clinic, your initial assessment includes a thorough history of the injury, a comprehensive physical examination, orthopedic and neurological testing, and — where indicated — diagnostic imaging. Your chiropractor develops a personalized treatment plan targeting your specific injury and recovery goals, with an eye toward your return-to-work timeline.

The Reports We File on Your Behalf

WorkSafeBC requires specific reporting from chiropractors so your claim is documented and your treatment is covered. We handle all of this for you:

Chiropractor's First Report (Form 8C): Filed within three days of your initial visit. This documents your injury, our examination findings, and the treatment plan, and initiates the chiropractic portion of your claim.

Chiropractic Treatment Report (Form 83D667): Filed at the sixth week of treatment or after the eighth session, whichever comes first, if we are requesting an extension. This shows your progress and clinical justification for continued care.

Chiropractor's Discharge Report (Form 11C): Filed within seven days of your last visit. This formally closes the chiropractic episode of care and documents your recovery outcome.

What We Treat for Work Injuries

The work injuries we most commonly treat include lower and mid-back strain from lifting and overexertion, neck and shoulder injuries from awkward postures and overhead work, repetitive strain injuries of the wrist, elbow, and shoulder, impact injuries from slips, trips, and falls, sciatic-type pain from heavy or prolonged sitting, and headaches related to neck strain or concussion-adjacent mechanisms. Our approach combines hands-on spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, active release techniques, and guided rehabilitation exercises to restore function progressively over your treatment plan.

If Your Claim Isn't Accepted Yet

Your chiropractor can begin treatment while your WorkSafeBC claim is still under review. We'll submit the Chiropractor's First Report and treat your injury based on clinical need. If your claim is later accepted, we bill WorkSafeBC for the care provided. If the claim is denied, you may be responsible for the cost of the visits — we'll discuss this clearly with you before starting.

Motor Vehicle Injuries
Injured in a Car Accident Instead?
If your injury happened in a motor vehicle accident rather than at work, you're covered by ICBC — not WorkSafeBC. We handle both.

Under ICBC's Enhanced Care no-fault model, every person injured in a motor vehicle accident in British Columbia is entitled to chiropractic care — regardless of who caused the collision. Whether you were the driver, passenger, cyclist, or pedestrian, you're pre-approved for treatment from the moment you file your claim.

How ICBC Coverage Works

You're pre-approved for up to 25 chiropractic sessions within 12 weeks of your accident. No referral needed, no out-of-pocket cost, and no fault determination required. Treatment can begin as soon as you have your ICBC claim number. If your recovery requires more than 25 sessions, your chiropractor submits a Treatment Plan to ICBC requesting extension — commonly approved with supporting clinical documentation.

The 12-week window starts from the date of your accident, not your first appointment — so early treatment matters.

Frequently Asked Questions
WorkSafeBC Chiropractic — Your Questions Answered
How many chiropractic visits does WorkSafeBC cover for a work injury?
WorkSafeBC covers up to 11 chiropractic sessions within 8 weeks for an accepted musculoskeletal injury claim, provided that your initial chiropractic visit occurs within 60 days of the date of injury. If your first visit is more than 60 days after the injury, WorkSafeBC approval is required before treatment begins. (Source: WorkSafeBC Chiropractic Services Agreement, in effect January 1, 2026.)
Do I need a doctor's referral for WorkSafeBC chiropractic care?
No. In British Columbia, chiropractors are recognized as primary healthcare providers by WorkSafeBC. You do not need a referral from your family doctor to start chiropractic treatment for an accepted WorkSafeBC claim.
Will I have to pay anything out of pocket?
No. When your WorkSafeBC claim is accepted, we bill WorkSafeBC directly under the Chiropractic Services Agreement for your covered sessions. There is no out-of-pocket cost to you for treatment within your covered period.
Can I start treatment before my WorkSafeBC claim is accepted?
Yes. Your chiropractor can begin treatment while your claim is pending and will submit the Chiropractor's First Report (Form 8C) to WorkSafeBC within three days of your initial visit. If WorkSafeBC later accepts your claim, we bill them for the treatment provided. If the claim is denied, you may be responsible for the cost of the visits — we'll discuss this clearly with you before starting.
What if I need treatment beyond 8 weeks or 11 sessions?
If your recovery requires additional chiropractic care, we submit a Chiropractic Treatment Report (Form 83D667) at the sixth week of treatment or after the eighth session, whichever comes first, requesting an extension. WorkSafeBC reviews these requests based on clinical need. We handle all the paperwork on your behalf.
How do I report a workplace injury to WorkSafeBC?
First, report your injury to your employer as soon as it occurs — your employer files an Employer's Report (Form 7) with WorkSafeBC. Then file a Worker's Report yourself: online at worksafebc.com, by phone at 1-888-967-5377 (Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm), or through the WorkSafeBC mobile app. Even seemingly minor injuries should be reported, since symptoms can worsen.
What should I bring to my first WorkSafeBC chiropractic appointment?
Bring your WorkSafeBC claim number if it has been assigned, your BC driver's licence or government-issued photo ID, your Personal Health Number (PHN), your employer's name and contact information, and a clear description of how the injury occurred. If you haven't filed a claim yet, call WorkSafeBC at 1-888-967-5377 first.
What reports does my chiropractor submit to WorkSafeBC?
We file three standard reports during the course of your WorkSafeBC care: the Chiropractor's First Report (Form 8C) within three days of your initial visit; the Chiropractic Treatment Report (Form 83D667) at six weeks or eight sessions if we are requesting an extension; and the Chiropractor's Discharge Report (Form 11C) within seven days of your last visit. All paperwork is handled for you.
What if my injury was a motor vehicle accident at work?
If you were injured in a motor vehicle accident while on the job, both ICBC and WorkSafeBC may have coverage roles depending on the circumstances. The two systems coordinate, but typically WorkSafeBC takes the lead for work-related MVA injuries. Tell us when you book and we'll guide you through which claim path applies. See our ICBC chiropractor page for more on motor vehicle accident coverage.
