Custom Orthotics in Penticton BC

3D Digital Foot Scanning · Individually Handcrafted · 3-Arch Support

Your feet are the foundation of your entire body. When the foundation is off, pain cascades upward through your ankles, knees, hips, and spine. Our FootLevelers digital scanning technology reveals imbalances you may not even know you have.

About Custom Orthotics

What Are Custom Orthotics?

Custom orthotics are individually designed shoe inserts crafted from a precise 3D scan of your feet. Unlike the generic insoles you find at a drugstore, custom orthotics are built to address your specific biomechanical patterns — the unique way your feet distribute weight, absorb shock, and interact with the ground through every phase of your gait cycle.

At Okanagan Chiropractic Center, we've partnered with FootLevelers — the world's leading provider of individually designed custom orthotics — to offer our patients a level of foot support that simply isn't available off the shelf. FootLevelers has been handcrafting custom orthotics for nearly seven decades, and their patented 3-Arch Advantage® is what sets them apart: every pair supports all three arches of the foot, not just one.

Your feet contain three functional arches that together form the plantar vault: the medial (inner) arch, the lateral (outer) arch, and the anterior transverse (metatarsal) arch across the balls of the feet. Most over-the-counter insoles support only the inner arch, leaving the other two unsupported. Over time, this incomplete support can actually cause your arches to flatten further — making the original problem worse.

FootLevelers orthotics correct this by providing comprehensive, individually calibrated support for all three arches, stabilizing the pelvis, and restoring proper function to the entire lower extremity kinetic chain. The result is better alignment from the ground up — and often a meaningful reduction in pain that seemed unrelated to your feet.

Why Your Feet Matter

Your body operates as an interconnected system — biomechanics experts call it the kinetic chain. Your feet are the foundation of this chain. Even small imbalances in foot structure compound over time, causing compensatory changes in the ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, and spine. Correcting the foundation often resolves pain far above the feet.

The 3 Arches of Your Foot

FootLevelers is the only orthotics provider that supports all three arches of the plantar vault. OTC insoles typically address only the medial arch.

How It Works

Your Custom Orthotics in 4 Simple Steps

From scan to support in minutes. The entire process begins with a complimentary digital scan at our Penticton clinic.

Digital 3D Scan

Step onto the FootLevelers scanner for a precise 3D analysis of both feet. The scan captures arch height, weight distribution, and pronation patterns in under 60 seconds.

Assessment & Review

Your chiropractor reviews the scan results with you, identifying asymmetries, arch collapse, and imbalances. You'll see exactly how your feet are affecting your body.

Handcrafted Orthotics

Your scan data is sent to FootLevelers' lab where skilled technicians handcraft your custom orthotics using premium materials — no two pairs are alike.

Fitting & Follow-Up

Once your orthotics arrive, we ensure a perfect fit and provide guidance on the adjustment period. Follow-up scans track your progress over time.

How Custom Orthotics Help Beyond Your Feet

Foundational imbalances in your feet can cause pain and dysfunction throughout your entire body. Here's what custom orthotics can address.

Low Back Pain

Pronated or misaligned feet destabilize the pelvis, creating compensatory spinal strain. Custom orthotics correct this from the foundation, reducing the biomechanical load on your lower back.

Back Pain Treatment →

Knee Pain

Excessive pronation alters knee tracking, increasing wear on the joint. Orthotics stabilize the foot-ankle complex, restoring proper knee alignment during walking, running, and standing.

Plantar Fasciitis

The most common cause of heel pain, plantar fasciitis responds well to custom arch support. Orthotics distribute pressure evenly, reducing strain on the plantar fascia — without medication or injections.

Poor Posture

Collapsed arches tilt the pelvis and shift spinal alignment. Many patients are surprised to discover that their posture problems originate in their feet — and that orthotics make a visible difference.

Hip Imbalance

Differences in arch height between your left and right feet create a functional leg-length discrepancy, forcing the hips to compensate. Orthotics equalize the foundation and relieve hip strain.

Sciatica

When pelvic tilt from foot imbalance compresses the sciatic nerve, the shooting leg pain can be debilitating. Correcting the foundational cause often provides relief that stretching alone cannot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Custom Orthotics FAQ

Common questions about custom orthotics, FootLevelers, and what to expect at Okanagan Chiropractic Center.

What are custom orthotics?
Custom orthotics are individually designed shoe inserts created from a precise 3D scan of your feet. Unlike over-the-counter insoles, they address your specific biomechanical imbalances and support all three arches of the foot — the medial (inner), lateral (outer), and transverse (metatarsal) arches.
How much do custom orthotics cost?
Custom orthotic pricing varies based on the type and style your chiropractor prescribes. The initial digital foot scan is complimentary — there's no cost to find out if orthotics could help you. Many extended health insurance plans cover custom orthotics when prescribed by a chiropractor. Please check with your provider for specific coverage details, or ask our front desk staff for help.
Does my insurance cover custom orthotics?
Many extended health insurance plans in BC cover custom orthotics when prescribed by a chiropractor. We offer direct billing through our JaneApp system to major providers including Greenshield, Manulife, and Telus eHealth. We recommend contacting your insurer to confirm your specific benefits.
How long does the digital foot scan take?
The FootLevelers digital scan itself takes under 60 seconds. You simply step onto the scanner and it captures a complete 3D map of both feet, including arch height, weight distribution, and pronation patterns. The full assessment and consultation with your chiropractor typically takes about 10–15 minutes.
How are FootLevelers different from drugstore insoles?
The most important difference is that FootLevelers orthotics are individually handcrafted from a 3D scan of your feet and support all three arches. Drugstore insoles are mass-produced in generic sizes and typically support only one arch. Over time, incomplete support can actually accelerate arch collapse. FootLevelers also uses a patented Gait Cycle System® that provides dynamic support through every phase of walking — not just static cushioning.
Can custom orthotics really help with back pain?
Yes. Your feet are the foundation of your kinetic chain — the interconnected system of joints from your feet through your spine. Imbalances in the feet create compensatory changes in the ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, and lower back. By correcting foundational imbalances, custom orthotics reduce the biomechanical load on your spine. Many of our patients who came in for back pain treatment have seen meaningful improvement after adding orthotics to their care plan.
How long do custom orthotics last?
FootLevelers custom orthotics typically last 1–3 years depending on activity level, body weight, and the type of orthotic. We recommend periodic follow-up scans to track changes in your foot structure and ensure your orthotics continue to provide optimal support. As your alignment improves, your orthotics may need adjustment.
Do I need orthotics for every pair of shoes?
FootLevelers offers orthotics designed for different shoe types — from dress shoes to athletic footwear to work boots. If you spend significant time in different shoe types, your chiropractor may recommend a pair for each to ensure consistent support throughout your day. Many patients start with one pair for their most-worn shoes.
